On May 15, 1991, the first ES-3A Shadow made its maiden flight. The ES-3A was an S-3A Viking anti-submarine aircraft heavily modified to a new electronic reconnaissance configuration. Its first appearance in the Fleet was in 1993, with VQ-5 Sea Shadows
