In November 1946, Lt. Col. Marion E. Carl, USMC, flying a Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star, conducted a series of landings and takeoffs on USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, as part of an extensive investigation of the carrier suitability of jet aircraft.
