On October 26, 1922, Langleys first landing was made by Lt. Comdr. Godfrey de Courcelles Chevalier, off Cape Henry, Virginia, in an Aeromarine 39-B. Tragically, Chevalier was killed a few weeks later in the crash of a Vought VE-7.
