The USS Missouri bombards Chong-Ji, Korea, with her 16 inch guns. This is the first time the USS Missouri has traveled so far north on a bombarding mission. Chong-Ji is approximately 120 miles from the Russian base of Vladivostok and 39 miles from the Soviet border. The purpose of the mission was to cut the lines of communication between the northern and southern part of Korea.
