A five-day Navy task force under the command of Vice Admiral Donald B. Duncan, Commander of the Second Task Fleet, made goodwill visits to ports in the Persian Gulf during the period August 17 - August 28, 1948. Ports visited by independently operating units of the force included Ras Tanura, Doha and Ras Al Niahab in Saudi Arabia, and the British Protestorates of Kuwait and Bahrein. Ships comprising the forces were; the amphibious command ship USS Pocono, flying the flag of Vice Admiral Duncan, the escort carrier USS Siboney, the destroyers USS Massey and USS Sellars, and the attack transport USS Carpellotti. The task force left the United States July 7 and is scheduled to return to Norfolk, Virginia, about September 24.
