On 9 March 1945, some 325 B-29s of Maj. Gen. Curtis E. LeMay?òs XXI Bomber Command, based in the Mariana Islands, conducted the first fire bombing (napalm and incendiary bombs) of Tokyo. The Japanese reported 83,793 killed. By 25 May 1945, after six fi
