The heavy cruiser IJN Chikuma, part of VAdm. Takeo Kurita?òs Center Force, was sunk during the Battle off Samar on 25 October 1944 by FM-2 Wildcats and TBM-1C Avengers of RAdm. Felix B. Stump?òs Task Unit 77.4.2 (Taffy 2).
