Comdr. James B. Stockdale (shown here as a vice admiral) was commanding officer of Fighter Squadron 51 (VF-51) on board the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14) during the events of 2-4 August 1964, and led the strike on the Vinh petroleum depot on 5 August 1964. A
