USS Laffey (DD-724) joined a radar picket station off Okinawa on 14 April 1945. On 15 April 1945, Laffey was credited with the destruction of 9 Japanese aircraft, but in turn she was hit by 4 bombs and 5 kamikazes. Thirty-two of her crew were killed an
