USMC PBJ-1H (USAAF B-25) Mitchell medium bombers of VMB-612 bombed Iwo Jima from early December 1944 to late January 1945. VMB-612 operated from the Marianas under USAAF VII Bomber Command. The marines operated mainly at night against Japanese shipping.
