Captain Cassin Young, USN received the Medal of Honor for saving his ship from destruction in the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Admiral Chester W. Nimitz presented the award. Captain Young was later killed in action aboard the last ship of his command, the USS San Francisco in the Battle of Guadalcanal in 13-15 November, 1942.
