In the wake of the D-Day landings on Normandy on 6 June 1944, artist Mitchell Jamieson depicted a portion of the invasions mechanical detritus in this watercolor titled Burnt Out LCT on American Beach. The artist was considered one of Americas foremost watercolorists. He also participated in the invasion of Sicily, painted the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay, and volunteered as a civilian artist for the Army during the Vietnam War.
