No one captured the essence of the Great White Fleets majesty better than Swedish-American Henry Reuterdahl. A lieutenant commander in the United States Naval Reserve Force, Reuterdahl was selected by President Theodore Roosevelt to accompany the fleet on its 1907-1909 round-the-world voyage. The original of his Straits of Magellan painting is on display at the U.S. Naval Academy Museum.
