The Cimarron Class Oiler USS Merrimack (AOJ-179) provides simultaneous replenishment with the Spruance class Destroyer USS Arthur W. Radford (DD-968) and the U.S. Navys nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73) while transiting the Atlantic Ocean on February 3, 1996. The George Washington Battle Group commanded by RADM Henry Giffin, departed their homeports in late January for a scheduled six-month deployment to the Mediterranean. While on station with the Sixth Fleet they will patrol the waters of the Adriatic in support of NATO Peace Keeping Operation Joint Endeavor.
