During Battle of Midway damaged TBF, Grumman torpedo bombers, called Avengers, fought until disabled and returned to Midway to land. This TBF, although badly shot up, made home safely under its own power. (Indication of great stamina and structural strength of U.S. planes -- takes plenty of punishment to down them).
