Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 (HMLA-169) became the first Marine Corps squadron to deploy operationally with the new AH-1W Super Cobra, on October 8, 1987. The squadron deployed to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Okinawa (LPH-3).
