IJN I-68 was completed on 31 July 1934 and renamed I-168 in May 1942. I-168 was commanded by Lt. Cdr. Yahachi Tanabe. She shelled Midway on the morning of 5 June and fired four torpedoes at the crippled Yorktown on 6 June. One torpedo struck and sank
