USS Barr (DE-576) was part of the USS Block Island (CVE-21) HUK Group. On 29 May 1944, in the mid-Atlantic, U-549 sank Block Island and damaged Barr. U-549 was then sunk by two other HUK escorts. Barr was repaired and redesignated APD-39. She was trans
